University and Community College Students Unite to Clean Paterson

Student volunteers from ASEZ, which stands for Save the Earth from A to Z, carried out their “Reduce Crime Together” campaign at Wrigley Park neighborhood in Paterson, NJ. ASEZ is an international volunteer group consisting of university students from the World Mission Society Church of God. ASEZ members from Passaic County Community College, Bergen Community College, William Paterson University and Fairleigh Dickinson University came together for this particular cleanup.

Although the students attend different schools, they were thrilled to have the opportunity to work together. The agenda of ASEZ involves building partnerships and working together in order to go further and fulfill goals. The success of the cleanup at Wrigley Park in Paterson came as a result of this mindset.

With their sleeves rolled up and smiles on their faces, the students had their work cut out for them. However, they used their youthful energy to spruce up the entire park—and made it look easy! They picked up litter, repainted the lines of two basketball courts, and repainted the basketball hoop backboards as well. Moreover, they removed graffiti from several walls in the neighborhood. By the end of the cleanup, they collected a total of 50 bags of garbage.

ASEZ Volunteers Bring Peace to the Neighborhood

Wrigley Park is a developing town in the City of Paterson. Nonetheless, ASEZ students took the opportunity to bring joy and peace to the members of the community through volunteer service. Beautifying the area created a safer community for residents as a result. ASEZ believes that this kind of work is needed everywhere to create a brighter, more sustainable future for society.

Autumn Alford, Legislative Director to Assemblyman Benjie Wimberly, showed her support to the volunteers. “By us cleaning up the area it shows that we care,” she said. “And so for other people around the area to see that someone actually cares, who are putting time into cleaning it up, that makes them a little bit more conscious of the things that they do—their behaviors, cleaning the environment and feeling good about where they live.”

The most important aspect of the “Reduce Crime Together” movement is volunteering with a mother’s heart. It is said that a mother is the peacekeeper of a household. For this reason, ASEZ students aim to share the love of Heavenly Mother with all mankind in hopes to improve the environment around them. ASEZ students around the world hope to continue in the cleanup efforts to produce positive results for their neighbors worldwide.
