In February 2025, severe flooding devastated Pikeville, KY, after heavy rainfall drenched the state. Rainfall totals ranged from 2 to over 6 inches, overwhelming rivers and drainage systems. The Pikeville Fire Department responded to over 50 swift water rescues and more than 130 emergency calls, as residents became trapped in rising waters. The flood also destroyed roads, bridges, and homes, with early damage estimates exceeding $50 million.
As the floodwaters receded, families faced the overwhelming task of clearing out their damaged homes. Water-soaked furniture, carpets, and belongings quickly became breeding grounds for mold and mildew, posing serious health risks. To prevent further damage, residents had to remove wet materials immediately.

Community Support Strengthens Pikeville Flood Relief Efforts
In response, volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God sprang into action. Volunteers quickly organized Pikeville flood relief efforts. With compassion and urgency, they helped families clear debris, remove damaged furniture, and salvage whatever was possible. Their efforts eased the burden on struggling homeowners who had lost so much.
Among those impacted was Brandy Kidd, a Pikeville resident whose home suffered extensive damage. Moved by the volunteers’ kindness, she shared, “I want to thank you all, please keep helping people. You all give me strength and encourage me that the world is still good.”
