Supporting a Sustainable Future in Sirgarny

Sirgarny lies along the world’s seventh-largest natural harbor. However, 11 gullies that flow into the harbor carry pollution and plastic waste to its shores, affecting both the environment and local community. Thanks to today’s cleanup, volunteers removed 164 pounds of plastic and filled 98 bags with trash. Their efforts helped restore the beauty of the area and created a cleaner, safer space for residents and wildlife.

Volunteers expressed their appreciation for the welcoming atmosphere. Nastasia said, “The Church of God is very warm and receptive which made it so easy to join in!” The event also caught the attention of Ms. Ebonique Blair, Beaches Coordinator for the National Environmental and Planning Agency, who noted, “I can see that you guys have a genuine interest in cleaning up and making a difference with efforts that are very commendable because this event is not just in Jamaica, it’s worldwide.”

The Erasing Plastic Footprints campaign shows how local actions can contribute to a global movement. Through ongoing community engagement, the Church of God hopes to inspire more people to protect Jamaica’s natural beauty and help preserve the environment for generations to come.
