Church of God Volunteers Protect Luquillo’s Coastal Ecosystem

Over 60 volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God in Puerto Rico joined efforts with the Municipality of Luquillo for a beach cleanup along PR-3. The volunteers collected approximately 600 pounds of trash, leaving the shore cleaner and safer for residents, visitors, and marine life. By taking part, they helped raise awareness of how waste impacts the coastal ecosystem and affects living beings worldwide.

The cleanup focused on more than just removing trash. Volunteers aimed to restore and preserve the coastal environment. Through their work, they encouraged the community to adopt sustainable habits that protect the shoreline and its wildlife.

Shores Restored Through Teamwork

The event also strengthened collaboration between the church and local government. Leaders from the Municipality of Luquillo joined in support and recognized the volunteers’ efforts. Mayor Hon. Jesús ‘Jerry’ Márquez Rodríguez expressed appreciation, stating, “On behalf of the municipal administration, we sincerely thank the World Mission Society Church of God for their dedication and true spirit of service in preserving our environment clean and free from pollution.”

Volunteers shared their experiences as well. Robmarie Erazo said, “It is truly unfortunate to see so much microplastic on our beaches. Today, we were able to pick up a lot of trash. I feel happy and grateful for the opportunity to work with my fellow volunteers to do our small part in making this beach free of microplastics and a cleaner environment for everyone.”
