On December 8, 2024, ASEZ WAO volunteers gathered at Glen Park in La Grange, KY, to give the community park a much needed clean-up. Glen Park, a popular spot for residents from surrounding neighborhoods, had accumulated plastic waste, fallen leaves, and overhanging branches that made the trails difficult and unsafe to walk on.

A Team Effort to Make the Park Safer
Starting at 11 a.m., the volunteers worked alongside Oldham County Parks and Recreation Supervisor Mark McGreal. Their mission was to clean up the park and make the trails safer for everyone who visits. The team focused on picking up plastic waste and clearing the pathways of leaves and branches that were blocking the way.
The volunteers worked hard for two hours and managed to collect 19 large bags of plastic waste, leaves, and debris, weighing about 120 pounds in total. Thanks to their efforts, the trails are now safer and easier to walk on, making the park a more welcoming place for the whole community.
John Black, Mayor of La Grange, was impressed by the turnout and the hard work of the volunteers. “This has been an awesome event today at Glen Park. It’s unbelievable to see so many young people coming out to help clean up this area,” he said.
The clean-up event was a great example of how the community can come together to take care of local spaces. The ASEZ WAO volunteers, along with support from local leaders, made a big difference in ensuring that Glen Park remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone.
