Sabbath Day

Saturday, the Worship Day of God

God commanded us to keep the Sabbath Day. While it is a day of rest, it is first and foremost a day to commemorate God who created the heavens and earth. So, as God’s people, it is an essential part of our faith to observe it. God set this day aside for us and made it one of the Ten Commandments to ensure that we remember it.

“‘Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.’”

Exodus 20:8 (NLT)

All Christians are familiar with the Ten Commandments. However, not many Christians throughout the world observe or realize the importance of observing the fourth commandment according to the teachings of Christ.

“‘Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God.’”

God promises to bless all those who keep His Sabbaths (Isa 56:1–7). To receive these blessings, we must know which day of the week is the Sabbath Day.

“When the Sabbath was over …”

Saturday evening, when the Sabbath ended …”

According to the Bible, the day to worship God is Saturday. Jesus set the example of worshiping on Sabbath (Lk 4:16). And the apostles of the Early Church continued worshiping on the seventh-day Sabbath even after Christ was crucified (Ac 17:2; Ac 18:4).

“Each Sabbath found Paul at the synagogue, trying to convince the Jews and Greeks alike.”

Christians observed the Sabbath Day as God commanded from the time of Christ until A.D. 321. At that time, Roman Emperor Constantine outlawed worship on Saturday and forced people to worship on Sunday. However, Jesus taught that the seventh-day Sabbath must be kept even until the end of the age (Mt 24:20).

The World Mission Society Church of God keeps the seventh-day Sabbath holy, just as Jesus and the disciples did, to receive God’s promises of rest and blessings.

Baptism is the ceremony that allows us to be born again spiritually. Through baptism, our sin is buried in water and we come to live a new life in Christ.
