Erasing Plastic Footprints at Harts Cut Bay in Trinidad

On July 20, 2025, volunteers gathered at Harts Cut Bay in Chaguaramas, Trinidad, for a beach cleanup focused on reducing plastic waste and protecting the coastal ecosystem. Community members worked together to collect litter and debris along the shoreline, helping to keep pollution out of the ocean. Beach cleanups like this play an important role across Trinidad and Tobago by encouraging people to care for their local spaces.

Volunteers Restore Harts Cut Bay Beach

Volunteers removed trash ranging from plastic bottles to broken items that had accumulated over time. This cleanup brought a fresh sense of hope to the community. One of the most heartwarming moments came right after the cleanup, when families returned to the water to enjoy the clean beach. Spaces like this make a big difference for local families. Many rely on the shore for relaxation and recreation.

These events also strengthen community bonds. People from all walks of life come together to protect the environment and improve their community. Their efforts raise awareness about pollution and inspire sustainable habits that help protect the coast for years to come.

The Heart of Volunteerism

A volunteer shared, “The volunteers were great. This is not my first experience. The volunteers of the Church of God are a unique group of young people. I am extremely impressed. I think the volunteering and good work come from an internal place. I would love to know what the recipe is so I could get other young people to volunteer and feel the same way about giving back.”

“Yes, education and awareness are critical—but what’s even more important is this,” said Dr. Rahanna Juman, Deputy Director of the Institute of Marine Affairs, gesturing toward the volunteers. “Citizens getting involved, volunteerism, and citizen science.”
