Forest of Hope Cleanup at D.W. Field Park in Brockton, MA

On Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, 52 volunteers from the World Mission Society Church of God gathered in D.W. Field Park in Brockton, MA. They came together for the Forest of Hope Campaign, a global effort aimed at protecting the environment and supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those focused on preventing desertification and preserving nature.

The Church of God partnered with the Office of Mayor Robert Sullivan and Brockton Parks and Recreation to organize the event. Together, they focused on restoring D.W. Field Park, a beloved green space known for its peaceful trails, ponds, and family-friendly areas. Though the morning began with rain, the skies soon cleared, setting the tone for a bright and productive day.

Community Effort Makes a Visible Impact

Volunteers worked in teams to clean trails, wooded sections, and open fields throughout the park. They came prepared with gloves, trash bags, and a strong sense of purpose. By noon, the group had collected a total of 108 pounds of litter. This included eight full bags of trash weighing 48 pounds, 40 pounds of plastic waste, and even a discarded car tire. Their work helped restore the park’s natural beauty while raising awareness about the importance of environmental care.

The Forest of Hope Campaign supports SDG targets like Life on Land (Goal 15), which promotes sustainable land use and reforestation, and efforts to combat land degradation and desertification. While Brockton may not face desert conditions, protecting local ecosystems through cleanups plays a key role in preventing long-term soil damage and preserving green spaces.

The event not only made a difference for D.W. Field Park but also showed how powerful community action can be. Through teamwork, dedication, and care for the environment, volunteers brought hope and change to a vital part of Brockton.
