On the occasion of the UN’s World Day of Social Justice, the community in Grenada united to support the “Hope Hold” Campaign. The primary focus of the event was to combat hunger and poverty in Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. With contributions from local supermarkets, distributors, and community members, a food drive was organized to collect non-perishable food items. These donations were then distributed to vulnerable families across the island, as identified by the Ministry of Social Development, Housing, and Gender Affairs.
Working closely with the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary and team, the volunteers from the Church of God ensured that the food reached the families in need. Boxes were filled with the collected food, and the moment of the handover was captured in a photo, as the boxes were presented to Ms. Lystra Williams, the Administrative Officer Personnel. Another team member assisted in loading the boxes onto a truck for transport and storage before they were delivered to the families.
Supporting Families in Need
The main goal of the event was to provide 15 families, each with four members, with 15 days’ worth of food. These families were chosen for their vulnerable circumstances, and the food drive aimed to provide them with essential support during a challenging time. This initiative was a step toward achieving the UN’s goal of alleviating hunger and poverty, helping to improve the quality of life for families facing hardship.
Marla, a participant in the event, expressed, “Today, I came together with the Church of God volunteers to show Mother’s love to Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. This experience has taught me that a little can do so much and make a big difference in someone’s life.”
In gratitude, Ms. Williams spoke on behalf of the government and the people of Grenada: “On behalf of the Minister and the people of Grenada, I say again, thank you and God bless you all.”
Through this event, the community demonstrated the power of collaboration and compassion, making a difference in the lives of those in need.
