On June 16, 2024, ASEZ volunteers from Santiago, Dominican Republic, collaborated with Pedro García City Hall to plant 250 trees and clean up the Yásica River. This event was attended by local officials, including Mayor Jeudith Rodríguez of the municipal district, Vice Mayor Neli Aybar, councilors Dionis Pérez and Juan Neoli Valerio, as well as representatives from local organizations. The purpose was to contribute environmental effort in the community’s reforestation plan by planting trees.
Sugheiny Sánchez, an ASEZ volunteer, shared more about the ASEZ’s motivation: “This effort is not just about planting trees or cleaning a river. It’s a call to the community to join the fight against climate change and environmental degradation. No matter our age, we all have the power and responsibility to act.”
Sustainability Starts with ASEZ at Yásica River
By planting trees along the Yásica River, ASEZ and the local community demonstrated the way to address environmental issues while also building a more united community. The event also showed ASEZ’s dedication to a cleaner planet and the importance of instilling environmental awareness among younger generations. Each tree planted contributes to the ecological recovery of the area and becomes a symbol of the community’s commitment to sustainable practices.
Mayor Jeudith Rodríguez shared her appreciation for the ASEZ volunteer work: “We have felt very happy with the activities carried out by the Church of God. The young ASEZ volunteers help us with such dedication and passion; it’s phenomenal. Do you know what they transmit? That peace and love for doing things well and for the community’s benefit. The dedication they show in rebuilding these areas is truly inspiring.”
By working together, ASEZ and Pedro García City Council have shown that positive change starts locally and can inspire other communities to engage in similar environmental actions.
